That Ugly Brown Lamp

That Ugly Brown Lamp

One of our retro children was insulted. And we had to do something about it so its self esteem would not suffer.

The lamp above, with its peeling paint stripes and weird brown color, was referred to as “that ugly brown lamp.”

Well, Ugly Brown Lamp, we’ll show the world how beautiful you can be!

Ta da!

Mr. Vibe upcycled Ugly Brown Lamp with 2 coats of metallic automotive paint and 2 coats of clear. He also sanded and oiled the wood and rewired the lamp. With the lighter wood and lighter shade, he was hoping to draw the eye to the sparkle of our Pretty Blue Lamp.

Ugly Brown Lamp says, “Look at me now!”

Dimensions: Base height to top of wood neck = 17.25″

Height to top of harp = 27.5″

Height to top of shade = 32.5″

Stanley Occasional Table

Stanley occasional table

It may be called an occasional table, but this beauty by Stanley is actually a table all the time. It’s been completely refinished by Mr. Vibe and has a marvelous box veneer pattern on the table surface. There are two drawers, making it very roomy.

Dimensions = 28″ square x 20″ high.

In case you’re curious about what the table looked like before Mr. Vibe refinished it, here goes …

Quite the difference, eh?

(It looks even better in person. Take it from Ms. Vibe.)

A. Eberoth – Kontorsmobler Rail Ticket Agent Cabinet

We know. We know. Our business name is “Mid-Century Vibe”, meaning we deal in stuff from the mid 20th century. Try though we might to stick to that, sometimes we just run across something soooooo cool we can’t not buy it. We’re kinda like Julianne Moore in that scene from “The Lost World: Jurassic Park” that way.  “She can’t not touch” and we can’t not buy. This antique rail road ticket agent’s cabinet is one of those things.

It is marked “AEK – A. Eberoth – Kontorsmobler/Stockholm” and features dual down-pull roll-top desk style doors that reveal a wealth of storage, from pull out shelves to open spaces.  It is constructed of wood with oak veneer and includes the key. We have decided to leave this beauty as is. Its chips, dings, and coffee cup ring add to its character and give it life. It would function perfectly well as the storage cabinet it was intended to be, but would also make a lovely bar cabinet.
