StarTribune’s “2013 Best of MN”

The StarTribune has recognized MidModMen+friends in St. Paul, MN, as their pick for best “MidCentury Furniture and Accessories” in the “2013 Best of MN” special section. We here at Mid-Century Vibe are very proud to be a part of MidModMen+friends (we’re the “+friends” part) and are honored by this recognition from the StarTribune.

The article points out that MidModMen+friends is part of the “retro ghetto” along University Avenue. Businesses that cater to fans of retro furniture and accessories include Spinario, located in the Art & Architecture Building, Classic Retro @ Pete’s at University and Vandalia, and, the forerunner of us all, Succotash, around the corner from MidModMen on Raymond Avenue. Succotash has been in business for close to 20 years and owners Noreen and Paul have made us feel welcome in the neighborhood.

Thanks to the StarTribune for this unexpected honor. Thanks also to all of the people who’ve supported MidModMen+friends by stopping in to the store, following us on social media and loving the mid-century and modern life.

Whatever They Call It Sunday

We’ve got a big weekend planned following Thanksgiving at MidModMen+friends. Naturally, we’ll be open on Black Friday … and with extended hours, too.

The Saturday following Thanksgiving has become known as Small Business Saturday in order to promote shopping at small businesses. Perfect for our small business, however it’s also Go Green Saturday. MidModMen+friends will be celebrating because we are located on Metro Transit’s Green Line along University Avenue. Buses on the Green Line are free that day for shoppers, plus there are lots of special events at stores along the way. See here for more details. We’ll be serving cider, collecting TOYS FOR TOTS, and giving shoppers the chance to enter a drawing for gift certificates for the holiday season.

After Black Friday and Go Green Saturday, it just doesn’t seem right that the Sunday after Thanksgiving doesn’t have a name, so Neal of MidModMen has dubbed the day “Whatever They Call It Sunday.” Seems appropriate.

Here are MidModMen+friends store hours for these special days:

– Black Friday (10 AM-6 PM)
– Go Green Saturday (10 AM-6 PM)
– Whatever They Call It Sunday (11 AM-5 PM)

MidModMen + friends – A New Retail Location

MidModMen + friends Grand Opening, October 2012

Hey y’all! We haven’t done much with the blog in the last month or so because we’ve been working on something big. Our friends at MidModMen are renting a retail space at 2401 University Avenue West in St. Paul, MN, and we’ll be consigning our inventory with them. We’ve been busy making trips to the store to clean the space, deliver furniture and smalls, arrange the space, and meet our neighboring retro retailers.

The store, which will be called MidModMen+friends, will carry mid-century and modern furniture, decor, housewares and barware. (Oh, the beautiful, sparkly barware!) The store will be run on an occasional sale basis with the Grand Opening running October 12-14 (Hours shown in the image above). It will also be open from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. the remaining Saturdays in October starting October 20.
